+TL;DR: _Gideon the Ninth_ is a good book, and Gideon herself is a delightfully gay protagonist.
+
+What I crave most in queer representation in fiction is characters who are queer.
+Not characters who are about being queer (I am deeply tired of coming out narratives), nor characters who's queerness is an ignorable woke footnote, but characters who are characters and also inescapably queer.
+
+Give me a spy who does spy things and seduces one of the henchmen to help him defeat the villain.
+Give me a space pirate who fights a daring battle against her former girlfriend's ship.
+Give me queerness that is in the plot, but without needing the plot to center around the queerness itself.
+_Gideon the Ninth_ has that in spades.
+
+The titular Gideon is a laddish swordswoman, bound to accompany a noblewoman, Harrow, across the galaxy on the hunt for necromantic glory.
+She's highly competant, witty, infatuated with one of the other nobles, and a delight to ride along the story with.
+Gideon is gay as fuck and the reader absolutely knows it.
+
+The plot itself is a goth fantasy SF affair, with mysteries and secrets and betrayals.
+The rest of the cast mesh together well, and both Gideon and Harrow grow significantly by the end.
+I like these characters, I like this world, and I like that Gideon is her brash self throughout.
